My Musical Tradition
Gospel music is something that I love, and I listen to it at least once a week sometimes more.

There are so many songs in the playlist that speak to me immensely. Three are some that I have danced to multiple times. Dance is a really important part of my life as it is something that I have done since I was really young so it is something that I really love and will continue to love. I also sang a lot of the songs in this playlist once again from a very young age so I hope that singing will stick with me for a long time as well. A lot of the songs that are in my playlist are just normal songs that we use to dance or sing but some of my favorite songs are the Christmas-themed songs that we sing and dance to.
Christmas at my church is something that is very heavily celebrated. As soon as December starts we get prepared for the season. For the entirety of December, the youth get together and prepare the play, song, and dance for Christmas Sunday. On Christmas Sunday we would go to church early to have normal service and then our Christmas program. The program includes a play of the birth story of Jesus, Christmas songs, and dances.
“Jesus Is The Reason For The Season” is a song that my church sings a lot and it is a song that I love to listen to and sing.
I love it because of the message that it gives, the sound of the music, and how it can be used in many different ways. We mostly use it for Christmas but it could also be used for Easter. “Jesus Is The Reason For The Season” is one of the many songs that we sing but this is one that sticks out to me the most and it is something that Listen to regularly.
“Mary Did You Know” is a song that will forever have a place in my heart. It is such a beautiful song with such a beautiful story. This song has held a special space in my heart for a long time now I don’t know where it came from but I will never question it because of how beautiful the song and music are.
“Mary Did You Know” would be one of the few songs that we would have danced to at the program. The story that is being told by the lyrics is amplified by the dance movements that we combine with the music.
“Pentatonix-Mary Did You Know” I realize that these are the same song but there is something that feels very different about this one in comparison to the last one.
Pentatonix has always been a group that I enjoyed listening to and the way that they made this song sound just has a hold on me. I love the setting that they chose, and I think they chose that setting because it changes the way the song sounds. I love the way it sounds and how much more beautiful the natural acoustics make the song sound.
I admire how much you value gospel music. Expect when it’s around Christmas season because my Church was the same way when I was younger. Similar events are held in my church, where there is a large Christmas program complete with music, and I think they actually do play “Jesus Is The Reason For The Season” too.
ReplyDeleteI love gospel music too and honestly need to listen to it more. I didn’t even think about Christmas music when I wrote my blog, I focused more on my study rituals instead. That being said, my Christmas music traditions are pretty different from yours since I usually just listen to the top songs on Spotify. But the Pentatonix song? I used to listen to that so much in middle school! I was obsessed with them and completely forgot they existed until now, but I’ll definitely be listening to them today!
ReplyDeleteHi JP( I hope it's ok to call you JP). I've never really gotten into gospel music since I go to a catholic church, so I've never really been exposed to it. Although I can appreciate it, I really liked the song you posted in your post. I love Pentatonix as well. Every song they post is always so good.
ReplyDeleteHIi. I really admire your connection with gospel music. The songs you have listed here are beautiful. Dance is also an important part of my life and something I enjoy doing, whether its to ease my mind or to learn new skills. On the contrast, I really enjoy the song "Mary did you know" by pentatonix, their voices are amazing and fit together so well. Something about this song is so powerful.
